Highland Dance 2005 / 2006
/ 2007:
Over the past three years Highland Dance
has had unparalleled growth throughout Northern Ireland and the
Border Counties with an increase in dance schools and numbers attending:
1) A total of 19 dance groups, all members of the Ulster-Scots Dance
Alliance
2)Several junior classes where children are taught Highland Dance
as an after schools project
3) An increase in Highland Dance competitions from 4 in 2003 to
8 in 2005 - 11 in 2006, and a number planned for 2007
4) A massive increase in the number of registered dancers
5) A record demand for promotional dance displays across the Province,
at times the demand far outweighs the ability to deliver. At these
events Highland Dance provides a stirring visual dimension.
Another success!
Two dancers from 'Sollus' Highland Dancing, Bready, Strabane have
auditioned successfully for the prestigious Edinburgh Military Tattoo
Dance Team and have danced at the performances during August 2005
and 2006.
Teacher Training Success:
Alana Wright from 'Bright Lights' Cregagh, Belfast has passed her
exams with the United Kingdom Alliance Teachers of Dance and is
now a fully qualified Highland Dance Tutor, the youngest in Northern
Ireland.
Teacher training within the Dance groups continues
to grow across the province with most groups now being offered funding
for teacher training.
